Dunya Hayali had disappeared from Facebook for a while. Then she came back to speak, and she revealed her feelings directly to the public.

"You may also have noticed that I've been quite"submerged"in the last three weeks." This is how a Facebook post by moderator Dunja Hayali begins, which she posted on the social network on Saturday. This was followed by thoughtful words, which showed sadness, but also a deep concern about the state of debate culture in Germany.

ZDF host Dunja Hayali returns with long mail

In fact, Hayali hadn't posted anything on Facebook for a month. The 45-year-old is otherwise very active on Facebook. As quiet as it was on Hayali's Facebook wall, so great is the excitement currently surrounding her. The guest list of their show last Wednesday night caused a stir. The Green leader Robert Habeck was there, as was the lifeguard Carola Rackete. Some people thought it was one-sided. The ensuing discussion, perhaps one of the reasons Hayali is addressing her fans on Facebook.

The reason for her posting and her long Facebook abstinence is, however, at first a very private one: the death of two family members, one after the other. "Deep, massive cuts" would have been. Hayali did not want to go into this further.

Dunja Hayali with forceful words: "Grief hurts the soul"

Instead, she made a roundabout strike against what particularly occupies her in her state of vulnerability: "Grief makes the soul sore, more open and perhaps even more compassionate. But in addition to sympathy for victims and relatives, I also feel real disgust and anger at how events of this kind have been and still will be dealt with in the public debate." Germany in recent months shook:Sword-murder of Stuttgart, the deadly attack on an eight-year-old at the Frankfurt Main Railway Station fodder of a two-year-old in Essen. It talks about a "hate" machine that makes "whole groups collectively responsible for actions". The moderator asks: "Where is the empathy, where is the decency, where is the consolation, where is the solution-oriented, the learning process, the demand, where is the anticipation of investigation results? "After the death threats against Cem Oedemar and Claudia Roth, she also published an appeal on Facebook.
